GALVESTON – An energy company alleges service was disrupted to its customers after a Houston construction company struck a marked gas line.

Centerpoint Energy Resources Corp., doing business as Centerpoint Energy Texas Gas Operations, filed a complaint on Aug. 18 in the Galveston County District Court against AJM Construction Co. Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that the defendant's employees damaged its underground facilities and/or underground line on Oct. 28, 2016, while excavating in Dickinson.

The plaintiff holds AJM Construction Co. Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly negligently failed to maintain minimum clearance while digging with a backhoe. It alleges the total estimated costs associated with the incident are more than $16,000 and claims it is entitled to reimbursement.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs of court and such other just and proper relief. It is represented by Jeffrey Wells Oppel and Rita Pattni of Oppel & Goldberg PLLC in Houston.
