Worker seeks damages from Exxon after falling from ladder at Beaumont refinery

BEAUMONT – An Echo Maintenance employee is seeking more than $1 million in damages after falling from a ladder at a Beaumont refinery.

Damian Castillo filed a complaint on Sept. 8 in the Jefferson County District Court against Exxon Mobile Corp., Brand Energy Solutions LLC and Brand Energy & Infrastructure Services Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Sept. 19, 2016, he suffered severe bodily injuries after falling form a ladder while working at the Exxon Mobil refinery in Beaumont. He alleges sustained injuries to his feet, lower back, chest, neck and other parts of his body. 

The plaintiff alleges the fall was caused by the improper maintenance, equipment and placement of the scaffolding and ladder by the Brand defendants.

The plaintiff holds Exxon Mobile Corp., Brand Energy Solutions LLC and Brand Energy & Infrastructure Services Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide safe and adequate equipment and failed to properly train and supervise their employees.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants of more than $1 million and such other just and proper relief. He is represented by Kurt B. Arnold, J. Kyle Findley, Kala F. Sellers and Adam Lewis of Arnold & Itkin LLP in Houston.
