HOUSTON – A Harris County woman employed as a steward aboard a vessel is seeking damages after she was injured on the job.

Philomene Lewis filed a complaint on Nov. 28 in the Harris County District Court against Liberty Maritime Corp. and M/V Liberty Grace alleging negligence and gross negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 15, she was employed by defendants as a seaman aboard marine vessel Liberty Grace. While attempting to pull the mattress to make a bed, the suit states a piece of plywood slid out and struck her, causing her to fall and injure her back.

The plaintiff holds Liberty Maritime Corp. and M/V Liberty Grace responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to remedy the dangerous condition, failed to warn her of the existence of such condition and failed to render necessary medical aid.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual and exemplary damages, with interest, maintenance and cure benefits, costs of court and such other just and proper relief. She is represented by M. Paul Skrabanek and Betty Feng of Pierce Skrabanek PLLC in Houston.
