Austin Management Group maintenance worker alleges stove caused injuries

By Philip Gonzales | Apr 5, 2018

HOUSTON – A maintenance worker alleges she was injured because her employer did not provide proper equipment and moving aids to transport a stove.

Antonia Portillo filed a complaint on March 19 in the Harris County District Court against Austin Management Group Inc., doing business as Villa Serena Communities, et al. alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was employed by Austin Management Group as a maintenance worker. On May 31, 2016, she alleges she was injured when she and another maintenance worker were carrying a stove on a dolly to an apartment on the second floor. She alleges the other worker "jerked" the dolly, causing the plaintiff and the stove to fall down the stairs.

The plaintiff holds Austin Management Group Inc., et al responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide a proper and safe workplace environment and proper equipment.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney's fees, costs and expenses and such other lawful and appropriate relief. She is represented by Don Nguyen of Nguyen & Kan in Houston.
