BEAUMONT – A defendant company is seeking summary judgment in a lawsuit brought over an on-the-job injury.

Seeking up to $1 million in damages, Mitchell Gillette filed suit against Veolia ES Technical Solutions, along with a handful of other companies, on July 14, 2016 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Feb. 11, 2016, Gillette was employed by Newtron working on a job at the Veolia facility when he was injured because of the “defendants’ failure to utilize safety procedures.”

Court records show Gillette was working to install electrical service to a fan when material fell into a water-filled deslagger, causing hot water to splash out and burn him.

On May 7, Veolia filed a no-evidence motion for summary judgment, asserting that the company did not control his work.

Veolia is represented by John Surma, attorney for the Houston law firm Adams and Reese.

Gillette is represented by Adam Terrell, attorney for the Beaumont law firm Weller, Green, Toups & Terrell.
