Egdy Labs alleges former employee's 'ineptitude' cost it thousands in lost profits

Lawsuits

HOUSTON – A Houston tech startup alleges an Ohio woman misrepresented her qualifications on a resume she submitted before she was hired.

Egdy Labs LLC filed a complaint on Oct. 11 in the Harris County District Court against Jessica Rose Hooker alleging fraud and fraud in the inducement and other counts.

According to the complaint, Hooker applied for a job as an independent contractor with the plaintiff in May 2017 and the parties entered into an at-will employment agreement in June. The plaintiff alleges Hooker provided a resume that "grossly overestimated her experience and expertise," and that her "ineptitude in dealing with clients has cost Edgy Labs hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost profits and lost business opportunities." She was terminated Sept. 11, the suit states.

The plaintiff holds Hooker responsible because the defendant allegedly made material representations to it regarding her qualifications.

The plaintiff seeks all damages, with interest, attorney's fees, costs and such other and further relief to which he may show himself justly entitled. It is represented by Lawrence J. Friedman and F. Colby Roberts of Friedman & Feiger LLP in Dallas.
