HOUSTON – A Jones Act Seaman is seeking $1 million in a suit against his employer and co-worker after the co-worker allegedly struck him in the face with a pole.
Breen De Bree filed a complaint on Oct. 19 in the Harris County District Court against Pacific Drilling Services Inc., Pacific Drilling Inc. and Rex Covens alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 26, he was working aboard Pacific Santa Ana for Pacific Drilling Services when he was struck in the face with a scaffolding pole by his co-worker, defendant Covens. He alleges he sustained injuries to his head, mouth, neck and teeth and incurred significant loss of earnings and medical expenses.
The plaintiff holds Pacific Drilling Services Inc., Pacific Drilling Inc. and Covens responsible because defendants Pacific failed to properly train and supervise their employees and failed to provide appropriate medical attention.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $1 million and such other and further relief as the court deemed just and proper. He is represented by Kurt B. Arnold, J. Kyle Findley, Kala F. Sellers and Adam D. Lewis of Arnold & Itkin LLP in Houston.
