Suit against Farmers Insurance settles before trial, case brought over underinsured motorist benefits

Car accident 34

BEAUMONT – A lawsuit brought against Farmers Texas Mutual Insurance Company settled before the case could go to trial.

Seeking up to $500,000 in damages, Barbara Roberts filed suit against Farmers and Landon Nobles on Jan. 23, 2017, in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, Roberts was in a head-on collision with Nobles on Jan. 15, 2017. Roberts was traveling south on Concord Street when Nobles, who was “underinsured,” allegedly failed to control his vehicle and crossed the center lane.

Following the collision, Roberts made a claim with Farmers for underinsured motorist benefits and the company refused to pay the full amount of benefits owed, the suit alleges.

The suit was suppose to go to trial on Nov. 14 but settled on Nov. 9, according to a courthouse official.

Roberts was suing for her past and future medical expenses, pain, mental anguish, impairment and lost wages.

Beaumont attorney Rocky Lawdermilk represented her.

Judge Justin Sanderson, 60th District Court, presided over the case.
