Patient alleges hospital seeks to collect money from her instead of insurance provider

HOUSTON — A patient is suing a Houston hospital, alleging it is trying to collect money from her instead of her insurance provider.

Vanessa Williams filed a complaint April 26 in Harris County District Court against Westchase Emergency Center LLC, doing business as SignatureCare-Westchase, alleging violation of Texas civil practices and remedies. 

According to the complaint, Williams was injured in a vehicle collision Oct. 9, 2018, due to the negligence of a third party. The suit states Williams was treated at SignatureCare-Westchase, and that she provided the defendant with health insurance inforamtion upon her entry into the hospital. 

The lawsuit states SignatureCare-Westchase has been late in submitting the insurance claim and now the hospital is trying to collect the amount of $2,395 from the plaintiff.

Williams seeks exemplary damages of $1 million, interest, attorney fees, courts costs, actual fees and all other eqitable relief. She is represented by attorney Thomas N. Thurlow of Thomas N. Thurlow & Associates PC in Houston.
