HOUSTON — A Montana couple is suing a Harris County moving company, alleging they were overcharged and that their goods were damaged in the move from California.

Dustin McKennan and Carolyn McKennan filed a complaint on July 11 in the Harris County District Court against Movely USA LLC, doing business as Expedia Van Lines alleging breach of contract, breach of warranty and violation of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the McKennans sought Expedia Van Lines' services to keep their belongings safe for a move they were making from California to Montana in November 2018. The defendant allegedly provided the plaintiffs with an estimate for the services of $7,540.27.

The plaintiffs say they paid $2,639 prior to the move date but Expedia Van Lines demanded an additional $7,015.75, plus the original cost, which would have brought the total to $14,559.75, almost double the original price. The McKennans say they paid the defendant what was demanded, but the defendant was negligent in the moving process and the plaintiffs' goods arrived damaged.

The McKennans seek monetary relief between $100,000 and $200,000, attorney fees, court costs and all other just relief. They are represented by attorney Alex R. Hernandez of the Law Offices of Alex R. Hernandez Jr. PLLC in Austin.
