HOUSTON — A Houston taxi driver alleges the City of Houston illegally denied him of his taxi cab license renewal.

Mikiya Mengesha filed a complaint Jan. 10 in the Harris County District Court against the City of Houston and Adjudication Hearing Officer Montecella Flaniken, jointly and severally, alleging violation of the Texas Occupations Code.

Mengesha claims the City of Houston failed to issue him a renewal of his taxi cab license despite that he has no violations on his personal driving record as a cab driver. He claims the City's denial is based on one felony that he received for driving off while an officer was attempting to write him a parking citation which was brought down to a misdemeanor. He claims this violation does not fall under Texas law for revoking his cab license since it did not occur while driving his cab.

Mengesha seeks monetary relief of $20,500, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Wayman Prince of The Law Office of Attorney Wayman L. Prince in Houston.
