HOUSTON — A woman is suing the owner and property management of her Houston townhome after the ceiling allegedly broke off and struck her in the head and back.

Loretta Asumani filed a complaint March 1 in Harris County District Court against Liu Lee and Yehs Properties Inc., alleging negligence.

According to Asumani's suit, on Nov. 30, 2020, she was in her Houston townhome on La Roche Lane in Houston and was getting into bed when a "large piece" of the ceiling broke off and hit her in the head and back. Asumani claims she suffered "severe injuries" and alleges the defendants' negligence for failing to maintain the premises in a "safe and habitable manner."

She further claims the defendants' failure to maintain, repair and secure the ceiling in her townhome created an "unreasonably dangerous" condition. Asumani also claims she gave "repeated notices" to the defendants regarding the "numerous" safety issues in her townhome which included complaints about her leaky ceiling and that the defendants' failed to address the safety issues.

Asumani seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Jim Hart and Eloy Gaitan of Williams Hart Boundas Easterby LLP in Houston.
