H

Baker & Hostetler LLP issued the following announcement on July 2.

Drew B. Tipton, formerly a partner in BakerHostetler’s Labor and Employment Group, has been confirmed to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. He had served as head of the firm’s Labor and Employment practice in the Houston office.

“All of us at BakerHostetler are extremely proud of this well-deserved appointment for Drew,” said BakerHostetler Chairman Paul Schmidt. “He is an accomplished and respected lawyer of the highest integrity and we expect that his tenure as a federal judge will result in meaningful contributions to our legal system.”

For more than 20 years Tipton had represented management in labor and employment matters, focusing on employment litigation, client counseling and unfair competition. He had been lead counsel for labor and employment cases in state and federal courts across the nation. Over the course of his career he conducted training, advised on all aspects of employment issues, and routinely counseled employers regarding strategies for minimizing employment disputes and potential litigation. Since 2001 Tipton has been board-certified in labor and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Tipton received his law degree from South Texas College of Law and clerked for Judge John D. Rainey in the Southern District of Texas. He also served six years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
