HOUSTON - A Houston law firm has filed suit against a former client seeking fees from litigation brought over a plant explosion.

Alleging breach of contract, the Daspit Law Firm filed suit against Albert Ybarra on April 21 in Harris County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, the firm represented Ybarra in a personal injury matter arising out of a plant explosion at the Kuraray America EVAL facility in LaPorte, filing a suit on his behalf in Harris County District Court.

The suit states the parties executed a valid contract, which Ybarra terminated without cause and subsequently hired new counsel.

The Daspit Law Firm notified the new counsel of its retained fee interest in the case, which is believed to be settled.

The suit claims Ybarra has failed to reimburse the firm’s fee and expenses interest.

The firm is seeking up to $1 million in damages.
