HOUSTON – A worker has filed a lawsuit against Hurricane Oil & Gas Company claiming that he was injured when an employee dropped a load of pipes on his hand.

Plaintiff Robert Chavez filed the lawsuit in the Harris County Circuit Court against Hurricane Oil & Gas Company, Inc. and Upcurve Energy, LLC, citing negligence.

According to the lawsuit, Chavez is employed as a laydown technician and was working at a hurricane rig at a worksite in Pecos, Texas. The lawsuit states that Chavez was assisting in the lowering of pipes when the operator of the rig, an employee of the defendants, suddenly and without warning dropped the load onto the plaintiff's hand, causing him serious injury.

Chavez claims that the defendants were negligent in failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to properly control the load, failing to keep the rig under control, and otherwise failing to act as reasonable in the same or similar circumstances.

Chavez alleges that as a result of the defendants' negligence, he has sustained severe permanent injuries, which have caused him to experience pain, suffering, disfigurement, mental anguish, and lost wages. He alleges his injuries will affect his ability to earn income and enjoy daily life, and he adds that he has incurred medical costs and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover.

The plaintiff is demanding a jury trial to seek damages in excess of $1,000,000, plus court costs, interest, and any other relief the court deems proper. He is represented in this case by attorneys Nicholas Simon and Sean E. O'Rourke of Simon & O'Rourke Law Firm, P.C. in Houston.
