Two drivers named in suit over fatal collision

The relatives of a recently deceased man have filed suit against the drivers who they claim caused a collision and the man's resulting death.

Damon and Kristina Reeher filed a lawsuit June 21 in Jefferson County District Court against Desmond Ray Stagg and Ricky W. Shallow.

In their complaint, the Reehers claim Bennett Reeher sustained severe injuries in a collision with Stagg and Shallow on April 17. Because of the accident, Bennett Reeher died, according to the complaint.

The Reehers blame Stagg and Shallow for causing the collision, saying they negligently failed to maintain control of their vehicles, failed to stop their vehicles in a safe place, failed to maintain and provide warnings of a disabled vehicle and failed to properly display warning lights.

In their complaint, the Reehers seek a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

John Werner of Reaud, Morgan and Quinn in Beaumont will be representing them.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
