A Potter County resident filed a lawsuit against a major U.S. retailer over alleged premises negligence in 2013 leading to personal injuries.

Patricia Lopez filed a complaint against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in Galveston County District Court on July 15, claiming liability in July 2013 in a slip and fall incident at one of the retailer’s regional branches.

According to the suit, the plaintiff was shopping as a patron of Wal-Mart Store No. 504 in Galveston County on or about July 15, 2013 when she allegedly slipped suddenly and without warning on water or another substance on the floor, fell down, and sustained lasting physical injuries.

The suit states that the defendant was negligent in failing to maintain the floor’s surface in a reasonably safe condition; allowing water or another liquid to come into contact with the floor and remain there without cleaning it up; and neglecting to warn the plaintiff of the danger.

The plaintiff asserts pain, suffering, mental anguish, diminished capacity, impairment, compromised relationships, loss of earning capacity and medical expenses.

Lopez seeks compensation for damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney’s fees, expenses, and costs. The plaintiff is represented by Lorren Lucero of Amarillo.
