GALVESTON — A contractor who suffered broken bones in his leg while working at a BP facility in Texas City is claiming negligence.

Phillip Bentley filed a complaint  June 14 in Galveston County 122nd District Court against BP Chemical Texas City alleging negligence.

Bentley, according to his complaint, was working with Turner Industries as a contractor for BP at its premises in Texas City on June 15, 2020. He alleges that he suffered serious injuries to his leg and back when material was dropped onto his leg and that he suffered broken bones in his leg which required immediate surgery and the implantation of a rod and screws.

Bentley claims BP's negligence for breaching its duty to care and failed to have proper lighting of the premises or safe working conditions. He also claims BP hired inexperienced contractors and insisted the work be done in an unsafe manner. Bentley alleges as a result of his injuries, he suffered physical impairment, loss of earning capacity and incurred medical expenses.

Bentley seeks monetary relief of $250,000 or less, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by John Powell of The Powell Law Firm in Pearland.
