  Governor's Office accepting nominations for Star of Texas Awards

  Gov. Rick Perry's office is now accepting nominations for the 2014 Star of Texas Awards, which honor peace officers, firefighters and emergency medical first responders who were seriously injured or killed in the line of duty.

  The 9th Court of Appeals today reversed an arbitrator's decision reinstating James Mathews as a firefighter with the Beaumont Fire Department.

• Huff joins elite group of female fire chiefs

  Ann Huff joined a unique group this month when she became the first woman chief of the Beaumont Fire Department. The appointment makes Huff one of four female chiefs in Texas and one of 36 in the United States.

• Family of motorcycle rider killed in Sabine Pass sues Entergy over location of guy wire

  A Mississippi family is suing Entergy, claiming Merrell Robinson was killed because the power company placed a guy wire too close to the road. Robinson died on Feb. 24 when his motorcycle went off the road in Sabine Pass.
