Businesses say county excessively appraised them

Jefferson County property owners are suing over claims their property has been excessively appraised by the county appraisal district.

Edison Plaza Partners, Exygon Health & Fitness and Albanese Real Estate Investments filed a lawsuit Oct. 1 in Jefferson County District Court against the Jefferson County Appraisal District.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs own or lease property in Jefferson County appraised by the defendant in 2014, and the plaintiffs are appealing the order. The complaint states the valuation of the property was excessive in comparison to similar properties, above the fair market value and assessing an excessive lien and tax burden on the property.

The plaintiffs seek judgment setting aside the appraisal district's order, an order setting the fair market value appraisal of the property, costs of court and attorney fees.

They are represented by attorneys Gavin McBryde and Kathleen J. Santos of McBryde Firm in Austin.
