Bus accident results in lawsuit

A Jefferson County man is suing over claims he was injured in a collision when a bus failed to stop at a stop sign.

Calvin Hayes filed a lawsuit Sept. 26 in Jefferson County District Court against Cindy Yvette Jackson and the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Hayes was driving south on Ninth Avenue in Port Arthur on March 11, 2013, when Jackson, driving a South East Texas Regional Planning Commission bus west on 36th Street, failed to yield right of way at a stop sign and struck Hayes' vehicle in the intersection.

Hayes says he sustained physical damages that are likely to be permanent and incurred medical expenses. Jackson is accused of negligence, and the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission is sued for liability under respondeat superior.

Hayes seeks damages and interest.

He is represented by attorneys Michael R. Ramsey and Sean M. Russell of Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont.
