Family blames man's colon cancer on Texaco, Chevron

A Tyler County woman is petitioning for the testimony of a relative who was diagnosed with asbestos-caused colon cancer for a future lawsuit.

Nellie Adams filed a petition to perpetuate the testimony of John M. Adams Sr. for an anticipated lawsuit in Jefferson County District Court against Adams' former employer, Texaco Inc. and Chevron USA Inc.

According to the petition, John M. Adams was diagnosed with colon cancer, which is thought to have been caused by asbestos exposure at Adams' former employer, Texaco.

The lawsuit is expected to seek damages for wrongful death and gross negligence. According to the petition, John M. Adams' colon cancer is expected to progress and prove fatal.

Nellie Adams seeks an order authorizing the deposition of John M. Adams to perpetuate his testimony.

She is represented by attorneys J. Keith Hyde and D'Juana Parks of Provost and Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont.
