Flagger names driver who hit him in injury suit

A Jefferson County man is suing over claims he was injured while working as a flagger on a median when a car involved in a collision allegedly ran onto the median.

Mark Williford Jr. filed a lawsuit Oct. 13 in Jefferson County District Court against James Robert Owens, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Williford was sitting in a grassy median while working as a flagger for Tuesday Morning in front of the Colonnade Shopping Center on Phelan Boulevard in Beaumont on Oct. 13, 2012, when Owens attempted to turn into the shopping center, struck another vehicle and was deflected onto the median where Williford was sitting. Williford says he sustained injuries to his leg and body and a broken tibia that required surgery to place a metal rod in his leg. Owens is accused of negligence.

Williford seeks more than $200,000 in damages, including medical expenses, loss of earnings, loss of earning capacity, interest and costs of court.

He is represented by attorney Brett S. Thomas of Roebuck and Thomas in Beaumont.
