A Jefferson County man is suing to prevent the city of Beaumont from demolishing two houses he owns.
Cleon Fowler filed a lawsuit Oct. 28 in Jefferson County District Court against the city of Beaumont.
According to the complaint, Fowler owns properties on Corley Street and Elgie Street in Beaumont, which have been declared dilapidated and are scheduled to be demolished by the city. Fowler says this if the demolition goes through, it would dramatically reduce the value of his property and he would lose almost all of his investments and savings. The complaint states Fowler intends to remodel the houses to make them comply with the city code of ordinance.
Fowler seeks a temporary restraining order and temporary and permanent injunctions enjoining the defendant from demolishing his houses. He is appearing pro se.
