Two Mexican men file federal accident lawsuit

Two men from Monterrey, Mexico, are suing a Florida man over claims and personal injury resulting from a collision between two tractor-trailer trucks.

Jesus Cervantes Garza and Jose Cervantes Garza filed a lawsuit Jan. 7 in the Beaumont Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Edward Leon Douglas Jr. and United Global Expedited Services Inc., citing negligence by Douglas who was driving for United Global.

According to the complaint, at 3:40 a.m. on Aug. 5, 2014, the tractor-trailer Douglas was driving was speeding and swerving on Interstate 10 in Orange County before ramming the rear of the tractor-trailer driven by Jesus Garza, injuring him and Jose Garza, who was sleeping in the upper bunk of a sleeper berth.

Each of the plaintiffs seeks more than $75,000 in damages. They are represented by attorneys Hector G. Longoria of Heard Robins & Cloud in Houston, and M. Dru Montgomery and J. Thad Heartfield of The Heartfield Law Firm in Beaumont.
