A Jefferson County man is suing over claims he was injured from taking a drug prescribed by his doctor and marketed by Johnson & Johnson for non-FDA approved use.
Jacoby Moore filed a lawsuit Nov. 21, 2014, in Jefferson County District Court against Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc., formerly known as Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; Johnson & Johnson Company; Johnson & Johnson Research and Development; and Dr. Ravikumar Kanneganti, individually and doing business as Child Guidance Center.
According to the complaint, at the age of 7, Moore was prescribed Risperdal by Kanneganti to treat his ADHD, and the drug caused long-lasting emotional and other problems, including the development of gynecomastia. The complaint states that although the drug had been approved by the Food & Drug Administration for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults but not children, Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiaries rigorously marketed the drug, which was very lucrative, to physicians for the treatment of children.
