CORRECTION: Legally Speaking-Know Before You Vote contained inaccuracies regarding candidate Rick Green

In last week's "Legally Speaking" entitled "Know Before You Vote - The Texas Supreme Court Races," certain inaccurate information concerning Supreme Court Place 3 candidate Rick Green appeared.

First, due to a typographical error, the product made the subject of an infomercial filmed in then-Rep. Green's Capitol office was inadvertently described as "Focus Faster" instead of "Focus Factor."

Second, the product was incorrectly described as a "nutritional supplement made by one of Green's companies"; while Green has been involved in the herbal supplement business and has done legal work for the founder of "Focus Factor," Green has never had any ownership interest in the company that made "Focus Factor."

And while we didn't say he was paid for the spot, Mr. Green provided documentation indicating that, in fact, he did not receive any compensation for the infomercial.

Finally, the article stated that the $400,000 loan that Mr. Green's company received from Melvin Cox - a convicted felon who won early release with Mr. Green's assistance - was without collateral.

Although other news accounts regarding this, including The Dallas Morning News, similarly reported this, Mr. Green provided us with a Sept. 11, 2002, letter from the court-appointed Receiver for Mr. Cox's Fairfield Investment Company, indicating that the consolidation loan was later satisfied through payment of both cash and stock.

"Legally Speaking" regrets these inaccuracies.
