LUFKIN- Although he admits to being involved in an accident that damaged company property, a Lufkin city employee believes the accident was a sham and pretext for his termination.
Alleging violations of his civil rights, Aaron James Brown filed suit against the city of Lufkin on March 25 in the Eastern District of Texas, Lufkin division. Brown claims he is a victim of racial discrimination because he is African-American.
According to the complaint, various white male employees were involved in similar incidents without being terminated. Brown believes the city of Lufkin discriminated against him because of his race, in violation of federal law.
He is seeking an award of actual and consequential damages, including loss of income.
Asking for an award of punitive damages, Brown argues that defendant's actions were malicious and made with a "reckless disregard for the rights and welfare of Plaintiff."
The plaintiff is acting as his own attorney.
Jury trial requested.
U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone is assigned to the litigation.
