Wreck on Gulf Freeway leads to lawsuit

GALVESTON - A Texas City woman is suing JDB Services and two of its employees over a car accident on the Gulf Freeway.

In a lawsuit filed Nov. 8 in Galveston County District Court, Gloria Brown explains that a dump truck owned by the company and Gerardo Gonzalez and driven by Modesto Juarez Moreno struck her Mazda Protege as they were traveling in the 2500 block of Interstate 45 South.

Brown says she was driving in the middle lane when Moreno unexpectedly switched over from the left lane and crashed into her vehicle.

"Mr. Moreno struck Ms. Brown's vehicle with such force that her vehicle spun out of control and struck an inside concrete barricade," the original petition states.

Police were then summoned, and Moreno was cited for an unsafe lane change.

The plaintiff claims to have suffered severe injuries to her back, neck, head and arm as a result of the alleged collision.

The suit blames JDB Services and Gonzalez for hiring and retaining Moreno, who is faulted for failing to observe traffic laws and regulations.

Consequently, Brown seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

She is represented by attorney Sherry Scott Chandler of Houston.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County 212th District Court Judge Susan Criss.
