GALVESTON - After their teenage daughter was injured at League City's Christus Victor Lutheran Church last year, Kasey and Claudette Lunar have filed a $150,000 lawsuit against the house of worship.
According to the lawsuit filed Jan. 21 in Galveston County District Court, Katerina Lunar hurt herself as she made her way through the church's side doors. A metal bottom covering cut the 14-year-old's right heel and foot, completely severing her Achilles tendon, the suit says.
Katerina Lunar was at the church to perform volunteer work at the time of the alleged incident.
Her parents insist that the teenager kept a proper lookout "but she had no way of knowing that the door is defective in that its bottom metal covering had become razor sharp due to continued use and lack of maintenance."
The girl's reported injuries twice required surgery, the suit says.
It blames the defendant for failing to maintain the premises and the church side door in a reasonably safe condition and failing to place warnings about the door.
In addition to the specified monetary amount sought in damages, a jury trial is requested.
The Lunars are represented by attorney Gregory W. Allen of Houston.
Galveston County 122nd District Court Judge John Ellisor is presiding over the case.
