Galveston woman says power charges not hers, sues electric company

GALVESTON - Janet Winn of Galveston claims First Choice Power LP charged an outstanding balance to her account which does not belong to her, recent court documents say.

According to a lawsuit filed Feb. 9 in Galveston County Court at Law No. 3, the electric company added the delinquent amount - which belonged to the previous tenant of Winn's residence - to the plaintiff's own balance and ultimately disconnected service.

Winn says her niece was the previous resident of the home, but insists the two never lived together.

Winn and the apartment manager provided the power company with her new lease and additional information indicating that these were two separate individuals and two separate accounts, the original petition says.

Consequently, the complainant seeks unspecified monetary damages.

Attorney Gerson D. Bloom is representing Winn, and Galveston County Court at Law No. 3 Judge Christopher Dupuy is presiding over the case.
