Suit filed over League City wreck that injured adults, kids

GALVESTON Harris County residents Roxanne Ramos and Armando Benavidez are suing Richard Huff of Bacliff over a car accident in League City two years ago.

In a lawsuit filed April 5 in Galveston County District Court, the plaintiffs claim Huff caused the alleged incident on April 6, 2009, when he disregarded certain traffic rules and regulations.

Recent court documents show Ramos and Huff were traveling in opposite directions along Highway 3 near League City Parkway. Ramos and Benavidez were accompanied by two minor children.

Ramos says Huff disregarded a stop and go signal at an intersection and turned left in front of her vehicle, triggering the vehicles' impact.

"As a direct result, the plaintiffs each sustained serious bodily injuries," the suit says.

It blames Huff for failing to timely apply his brakes, failing to keep a proper lookout.

Each of the plaintiffs says they experienced physical pain and suffering, impairment and mental anguish.

Ramos and Benavidez seek $40,000 and a combined $9,000 for the young passengers in addition to a jury trial.

They are represented by attorney Toni M. Triplett of Houston.

Galveston County 122nd District Court Judge John Ellisor is presiding over the case.
