Defense expert selected in Galveston journalist's suit

GALVESTON - One of the defendants in a Pakistani journalist's lawsuit has designated its lead attorney as its expert witness.

Hometown Bank notified the Galveston County 10th District Court on July 1 that it has selected Michael L. Wilson to testify on its behalf during litigation arising from Pasadena resident Manzoor A. Memon's case.

Memon is suing Syed Rashid Bukhari for assaulting him in the bank's League City parking lot after a chance encounter last March.

Memon was investigating Bukhari for a news story into the man's alleged financial misconduct and was at the bank to obtain information on Bukhari's monetary dealings

Hometown Bank and the city of League City failed to help him resolve the situation, reportedly siding with Bukhari, according to the suit filed last Sept. 21.

League City entered a motion of summary judgment last month on the basis that it is immune from the intentional tort claims and it had no duty to investigate Memon's complaint against his daughter's father-in-law.

It stresses governmental immunity that can be waived "only if liability can be established under the limited circumstances specified pursuant to the Texas Tort Claims Act" and requests that any claims against the city be dismissed with prejudice, the six-page motion says.

Wilson will testify "on the subject of reasonable and necessary attorney's fees, including but not limited to the attorney's fees for the defendant in this lawsuit, as well as any issue raised by any other expert witness."

Hometown Bank reserves the right to supplement the designation.
