GALVESTON - Alleging two of its fighters were not paid for a boxing match in Mexico two years ago, Bad Boyz Inc. has a filed a lawsuit.
According to the lawsuit filed March 27 in Galveston County District Court, KO1 Entertainment LLC, Grupo Televisa and Tijuana, Mexico, resident Erik Morales owe fighters Chris Henry and David Rodriguez $45,000 each for their participation in the event in Tijuana on March 27, 2010.
Bad Boyz negotiated and contracted with KO1 and Morales in late 2009 and early 2010 to ensure Henry and Rodriguez's appearances on the fight card, the suit states.
The plaintiff also had an agreement with Televisa in which the network agreed to broadcast the fights in exchange for KO1 acting as the fight promoter for the boxing event.
Televisa also held the responsibility of compensating the boxers and their managers and would obtain the right to broadcast the bouts and each fighter's images upon remitting payment, the suit states.
Henry and Rodriguez were originally scheduled to fight on Feb. 27, 2010, but the match was pushed back a month, prompting the men to take a reduced fee from $55,000 to the now-disputed $45,000.
Bad Boyz says the fight was held as scheduled, but claims KO1 failed to promptly pay it or the boxers. In addition, Televisa aired the event despite not having ensured their payment under the contract with KO1.
Two years went by without Henry and Rodriguez receiving their cut, the suit states.
