A Beaumont woman is suing a Pennsylvania law office for making calls to her in which they did not state they were a debt collector.
Claiming violations of Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Brigitte Burg filed suit against Law Offices of Thomas Landis and Oxford Law on April 25 in the Eastern District of Texas, Beaumont Division.
Burg states that the defendants began placing collection calls demanding payment for an alleged debt in September 2011. The defendants identify itself as either Oxford Law Office or Oxford Law Group during the collections calls and did not tell Burg that it is a debt collector.
The defendants are accused of violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act by using false representation or deceptive means to collect a debt and by failing to inform Burg that the communication is from a debt collector.
The plaintiff is asking for an award of statutory damages, court costs, and attorney's fees.
Burg is represented by Adam T. Hill of Krohn & Moss Ltd. of Chicago.
A jury trial is requested.
U.S. District Judge Ron Clark is assigned to the case.
