Woman sues after man runs red light, causes traffic accident

TEXARKANA- An Arkansas woman has filed a lawsuit for more than $75,000 after another vehicle ran a red light and collided into her Mercedes.

Judy Carmeli filed suit against Anthony David Jones on June 20 in the Texarkana Division of the Eastern District of Texas.

The accident occurred on July 8, 2010, as Carmeli was making a left-hand turn at the intersection of 40th Street and Texas Boulevard. She states that her 2007 Mercedes SLK 280 was struck by the defendant's 2007 Ford SUV when he disregarded the red traffic signal, traveled into the intersection and collided with her.

The defendant is accused of negligence for failing to turn his vehicle in an effort to avoid the collision, failing to keep distance away from Carmeli's motive vehicle, failing to stop at an official traffic control device, failing to stop, yield and grant immediate use of the intersection to conform to the official traffic control device, and for failing to enter into the intersection only when he could have safely entered without interference or collision with other traffic.

The plaintiff is asking the court for an award of damages for emotional pain, loss of enjoyment of life, mental anguish, medical expenses, property damages, interest, and court costs.

Carmeli is represented by Errol N. Friedman of Friedman Law Office in Texarkana.

U.S. District Judge Michael H. Schneider is assigned to the case.
