Manager files disability discrimination lawsuit against rental store

SHERMAN - A store manager has filed a disability discrimination lawsuit after losing his job due to alleged poor performance.

Jeffrey N. Coomer filed suit against Alliance Rental Centers L.P. and Ioni Inc., doing business as Alliance Rental Center, on July 2 in the Eastern District of Texas, Sherman Division.

Coomer was hired by Alliance in September 2009 as the general manager for their Aaron's Sales and Leasing store in Bridgeport. The suit states that at the time he was hired by Alliance, Coomer was wearing a cast for a broken foot and heel.

By December 2009, Alliance management was asking Coomer for a medical release. According to the lawsuit, Coomer told the defendant that he would obtain a release on Dec. 9, 2009, after a physician examination. However, Coomer was terminated from his employment on Dec. 8, 2009, allegedly for poor performance.

The defendant is accused of disability discrimination in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for back pay and reimbursement for lost pension, insurance, and all other benefits, compensatory damages, punitive damages, attorney's fees, interest and court costs.

Coomer is represented by Nasim Ahmad and Delana Cline of Cline Ahmad in The Woodlands. A jury trial is requested.

U.S. District Judge Richard A. Schell is assigned to the case.
