GALVESTON – After major delays at voting centers this morning, a district court judge has ordered that Galveston County polling locations stay open until 8:45 p.m.
According to the Galveston Daily News, polls were to open at 7 a,m., but at many locations poll workers did not start up the computers early enough. Most of the 45 voting centers, which allow residents to vote anywhere regardless of their precinct, were finally fully operational by 9 a.m.
"We told (workers) that it would take a while and to get started at 6 a.m.," Chief Deputy County Clerk for Elections Bill Sargent told the Galveston Daily News. "Where there are delays, they didn't do that."
The votes that are cast during the extended period will provisional ballots, which are counted according to specific mandates.
