MARSHALL - Three Mississippi residents have filed a personal injury lawsuit against a Longview man claiming that he was traveling too close to their vehicle and caused a car wreck when they attempted to make a turn.

Steven Ramey, Debra Ramey and Betty Thornton filed suit against Anthony Burnett on Nov. 12 in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division.

The collision occurred on Nov. 26, 2010, as plaintiff Debra Ramey was traveling southbound in the outside lane in the 3600 block of Estes Parkway in Longview.

Steven Ramey and Betty Thornton were passengers in Ramey’s vehicle. According to the lawsuit, as Ramey slowed to turn right into a private driveway, she was struck from behind by the defendant’s vehicle.

The defendant is accused of negligence for failing to maintain a proper lookout, failing to properly apply his brakes, failing to exercise ordinary care, and for failing to follow at a safe distance.

The lawsuit is asking for an award of damages for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical impairment, medical expenses, disfigurement, loss of earnings, interest, and court costs.

The plaintiffs are represented by Bruce A. Smith, T. John Ward Jr. of Ward & Smith Law Firm in Longview. A jury trial is requested.
