GALVESTON - A Houston woman says she suffered a "severe" whiplash during an alleged two-vehicle accident in League City last year, recent court documents state.
In a lawsuit filed March 11 in Galveston County District Court, Salma A. Farooqui blames Erasmo Lopez, also of Houston, for the subject wreck on the morning of Oct. 5, 2012, which she claims gave her "severe and debilitating" injuries.
The suit shows Farooqui was traveling southbound along a feeder section of Interstate 45 near Main Street prior to the wreck.
She says she was at a traffic light anticipating a right turn onto Main when Lopez reportedly collided into the rear of her vehicle.
"The collision was severe enough to merit a damage rating of 2 out of 6 to both vehicles according to the police report filed by the investigating police officer," the original petition says.
It further asserts the defendant was using his cell phone while driving and was not in possession of a valid driver's license.
Farooqui was caught unaware by the accident's apparent impact, which purportedly harmed her neck, shoulders, arms, back and other parts of her body, according to the suit.
The complainant adds she has had lingering pain.
Consequently, Farooqui seeks $99,999 in damages and a jury trial.
Attorney C. Chad Pinkerton of The Pinkerton Law Firm PLLC in Houston is representing the plaintiff, and Galveston County 405th District Court Judge Michelle Slaughter is presiding over the case.
