GALVESTON - In response to a couple of alleged auto accidents that occurred in Galveston in a two-month span in 2011, Maria Verduzco is pursuing legal action.
Verduzco's lawsuit, filed June 5 in Galveston County District Court, accuses La Marque resident Vicente Lopez of causing the July 7, 2011, wreck while Galveston local Christine Gates Horstmeyer is faulted for the Sept. 21, 2011, incident.
Verduzco asserts that the first collision took place just as she was driving her 1999 Toyota 4Runner on Seawall Boulevard near 22nd Street.
During a stop due to traffic, she explains, Lopez "suddenly and unexpectedly" rear-ended her with his 2006 Honda Odyssey.
The event in question left the plaintiff with "serious and substantial" injuries to her neck, upper and lower back, both shoulders and general body.
The original petition then shows the second accident came about when Verduzco traveled in the 4Runner along 53rd Street near Avenue Q.
According to the complainant, who was accompanied by a minor passenger, a 2004 Ford Taurus driven by Horstmeyer struck the back of her vehicle while she waited on a green light.
Both Verduzco and the child sustained injuries, the suit says.
Consequently, the plaintiff seeks $100,000 in damages for both collisions as well as a jury trial.
Attorney Holly Fudge-Nieto of the Davis Law Firm in San Antonio is representing the plaintiff, and Galveston County 122nd District Court Judge John Ellisor is presiding over the litigation.
