Houston woman collides with tractor-trailer, initiates legal action

HOUSTON - A Houston woman claims a Louisiana man and his employer are responsible for a two-vehicle accident near the University of Houston earlier this year.

Whitney Houston sued Greensburg, La., resident Jarvis R. Payton and Landis Transport LLC in Harris County District Court on May 2.

The Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas received the litigation on June 14.

Houston says she was traveling northbound in approximately the 4800 block of the Spur 5 feeder road last Feb. 6 when she collided with Payton's commercial tractor-trailer.

According to the original petition, the tractor-trailer was "negligently stopped and parked in the right lane of the poorly lit highway."

As a result of the wreck in question, the plaintiff suffered severe injuries as well as significant damage to her vehicle and property, it states.

She blames Payton for failing to erect or place emergency warning devices around his vehicle while Landis is blamed for negligently entrusting said vehicle to him as well as hiring him in general.

Consequently, the complainant seeks more than $100,000 in damages and a jury trial.

Attorney Ryan H. Zehl of Fitts Zehl LLP in Houston is representing Houston.
