A Beaumont woman has filed a lawsuit claiming she suffered injuries when she slipped and fell in a Port Arthur Wal-Mart store.

Mary Paul filed suit against Wal-Mart Stores Texas in Jefferson County Court. The case was removed to the Eastern District of Texas, Beaumont Division on July 22.

The incident occurred on Sept. 3, 2011, as she was shopping at the Wal-Mart located in Port Arthur. Paul states she was injured when she slipped and fell in a puddle of water which had accumulated on the floor from a leaking roof.  According to the lawsuit, there were no warning signs in or around the area.

The defendant is accused of breaching their duty to keep the premises in a reasonably safe condition, inspect the premises to discover latent defects, and to make any defects or give an adequate warning of any dangers.

The plaintiff is seeking an award of damages for medical expenses, loss of earning and earning capacity, physical impairment, physical pain, mental anguish, interest and court costs.

Paul is represented by Beaumont attorneys Jonathan C. Juhan and J.J. Bragg.

U.S. District Judge Ron Clark is assigned to the case.
