Offshore Lifeboats LLC and K&K Offshore sued for negligence; worker seeks $1M

A ship worker is seeking $1 million after he fell onto the deck of a boat while transferring from one boat to another.

Calvin Howard filed a lawsuit Nov. 14 in the District Court of Jefferson County against Offshore Lifeboats LLC and K & K Offshore LLC, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, on May 16 Howard was working for Offshore Lifeboats and was injured when his employer attempted to transfer him from K & K's vessel, the M/V The Contender, to Offshore Lifeboats' self-propelled, self elevating deck barge, the L/B Janie.

Howard says that during the transfer he fell from a great height onto the deck of The Contender, causing injuries.

Howard is seeking damages in excess of $1 million.

He is being represented in the case by attorneys Ryan H. Zehl, Eric J. Allen and Tommy Servos of Fitts Zehl LLP.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
