Brazoria Co. woman faults Pearland ISD for accident with school bus

GALVESTON - Brazoria County resident Susan McGuire is suing the Pearland Independent School District and one of its employees over an alleged two-vehicle accident in Dickinson in September 2012, recent court documents say.

A lawsuit filed Dec. 23 in Galveston County Court at Law No. 1 claims Pearland resident Blair Gray crashed a PISD school bus into McGuire's vehicle on the afternoon of Sept. 15, 2012.

Prior to the event in question, McGuire was driving south on California Avenue in Dickinson.

She was stopped at the intersection with FM 517 "for some moments" when suddenly and without warning Gray rear-ended her, the suit says.

According to the plaintiff, the impact caused her "to be thrown about in her car" and to sustain severe bodily injuries.

McGuire faults the bus driver for:

  • Speeding;

  • Failing to keep a lookout;

  • Failing to apply the brakes; and

  • Failing to swerve the bus to avoid striking the complainant's vehicle.

Consequently, McGuire seeks "at least" $50,000 in damages.

Attorney Harry C. Arthur of Houston is representing the plaintiff, and Galveston County Court-at-Law No. 1 Judge John Grady is presiding over the case.

Cause No. 71,270
