Flanagan Shipping sued after damaging a berth

A local port is suing after having to repair a berth, allegedly due to the defendant's negligence.

The Port of Port Arthur Navigation District of Jefferson County filed a lawsuit Jan. 8 in the Jefferson County District Court against James J. Flanagan Shipping Corp. 

According to the complaint, on Aug. 4, 2012, employees of Flanagan were loading the Star Harmonia when a liner board roll was dropped on the port's dock at berth 3, causing significant damages.

As a result of the defendant's alleged negligence, the plaintiff has sustained at least $41,632.25 in damages, according to the complaint.

The Port is seeking $41,632.25 in damages, plus interest and costs.

They are being represented in the case by attorney Scot. E Sheldon.
