A Jefferson County man is suing over claims he suffered back injuries in a collision when a vehicle reversed on a bridge.

Joseph Cardinale filed a lawsuit April 23 in the Jefferson County District Court against Gary Wayne Landry, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Cardinale was driving east on the Rainbow Bridge on Highway 87 two cars behind the defendant March 1, 2013.  Landry allegedly stopped his vehicle suddenly began driving in reverse to pick up equipment and materials that had fallen out of his truck.

Cardinale says the car in front of him changed lanes to avoid a collision, but he could not move in time, and his vehicle collided with Landry's. Cardinale claims he sustained a back injury in the collision.

Landry is accused of failing to secure his equipment, failing to operate his vehicle in a safe manner and failing to utilize the shoulder area.

Cardinale is seeking damages in an amount to be determined by the court.

He is being represented in the case by attorney Tommy L. Yeates of Moore, Landrey LLP in Beaumont.
