A Houston man is suing his former employer for terminating him under false accusations.

John R. Powell filed suit May 23 in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas Houston Division against Navigators Group Inc. and Navigators Management Company Inc.

According to the complaint, Powell worked for the defendants an an underwriter from 1983 until 1991. He came back to the company in April 2000 until his dismissal Jan. 24, 2013, when he was terminated for allegedly making racial comments in the workplace.

The plaintiff contends he never made such comments, was never warned about such behavior in the workplace and due to his age of 64 years old at the time of his dismissal, he has now found difficulty finding replacement employment.

Powell is seeking lost wages, actual damages and costs.

He is being represented by attorney John C. Cunningham.
