A Jefferson County woman is filing a petition for deposition regarding a relative's illness believed to have been caused by chemical exposure during his employment.

Evelyn Elaine Gonzales filed a petition to record the testimony of Vernon Wayne Gonzales by deposition on June 4 in the Jefferson County District Court in anticipation of an action to be filed against Exxon Mobil Corp. and Mobil Oil Refining Corp., citing wrongful death.

According to the complaint, Vernon Wayne Gonzales was exposed to benzene in his employment at a Mobil plant, and was subsequently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Evelyn Elaine Gonzales is seeking deposition as Vernon Wayne Gonzales's chances of recovering from lymphoma are poor, court papers state.

They are being represented by attorney D'Juana Parks of Provost Umphrey Law Firm LLP in Beaumont.
