A Harris County man is suing over claims he sustained injuries after falling from a gangway.

John Turknett Jr. filed a lawsuit June 18 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Brenntag Southwest Inc. and Chem Carriers Towing LLC, citing negligence.

Turknett claims he was injured at defendant Brenntag's Channelview facility while working as a tanker man for SGS Petroleum Service Corp. on Oct. 27.

The suit alleges as Turknett was walking down the gangway from the barge he was working on, the gangway suddenly flipped without warning, causing him to fall onto the lower deck of the barge and injure his shoulder, back, neck, head, knee and other parts of his body.

According to the suit, Brenntag Southwest failed to secure the gangway to the barge and Chem Carriers failed to ensure the gangway was secured, resulting in the accident.

Turknett is seeking damages and any other relief the court deems just.

Turknett is being represented in the case by Houston attorney Anthony G. Buzbee of The Buzbee Law Firm.
